Technical VFX Artist

Freelance Remote

We have an opening for an experienced Technical VFX Artist. Our debut title requires someone who understands both the artistic vision and the technical implementation needed to bring atmospheric worlds to life.

Required specs:

  • Craft high-quality real-time particle effects that elevate the game's look and feel.
  • Uphold strong artistic and technical standards, refining effects to be both polished and performant.
  • Leverage preexisting assets to build rich, atmospheric worlds that fully immerse players.
  • Translate game design documentation into beautiful visual effects that support environments, gameplay, and narrative.
  • Strong understanding of Unreal Engine 5, and it's technical implementation methods.

3D Artist (Retro-Style)

Freelance Remote Contract

We're looking for a 3D Artist with expertise in (and a love for!) classic PlayStation-era visual aesthetics for short-term contract work.

Required specs:

  • Create stylised 3D models inspired by PS1-era aesthetics, spanning both characters and environmental assets
  • Balance nostalgia with readability, ensuring assets feel authentic while supporting modern gameplay needs.
  • Own the full asset pipeline, from blockout through to final in-engine implementation.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering and art direction to ensure assets reinforce tone, worldbuilding, and player experience.
  • This project is based in Unity, so you'll need an strong understanding of the engine.

At Stupendium Softworks, we're currently only hiring freelancers.
We're really not interested in cover letters that sound like they were written by ChatGPT or CVs padded with every buzzword you could find on LinkedIn. We want to see your work, feel your humour, understand your process, and get a sense of whether you'd thrive in our particular brand of organized chaos. If you can survive a game of Peak or Guilty As Sock with us, we're gonna get along just fine.

What to Include

  • CV/Cover Letter: Standard stuff, but make it lovely. Show off a bit here!
  • Portfolio/GitHub: Show us what you've built, not what you've managed
  • Specific examples: Tell us about a problem you solved and how you solved it
  • Questions: Ask us something about the role, the project, or the studio
  • Personality: Kindly, no AI. We work closely together. Let us know who you are!
  • Day Rate: No artists die of "exposure" here

Remote Work Policy

The sun never sets on Stupendium Softworks, we have staff on both coasts of the US, Europe and all over the world! You're a freelancer, so we value results over hours logged, but we do need overlap time for collaboration and the occasional heated debate about implementation details.
